Pivotal Labs Expands Services and Locations to Help More Companies Develop Quality Software Products Cost-Effectively

Thursday, October 11, 2012

Agile software development consultancy bolsters design services; launches new product management practice; opens new offices in the US and UK; expands executive team

San Francisco – September 27, 2012 – Pivotal Labs, a leader in highly disciplined agile software development practices, today announced that it is expanding its design capabilities and launching a new product management practice. The company also announced the opening of two new offices in the US, along with its first office in Europe, in addition to new appointments to the executive team.

Announcing New Design and Product Management Services

As part of Pivotal’s growth strategy, the company is expanding its existing design practice and creating an entirely new product management practice, enabling Pivotal to integrate all aspects of the software development process. Pivotal’s clients can now tap into expert help to plan, define, prioritize, and design their entire product and strategic roadmap. These additional services will promote greater efficiency throughout the entire development process to ensure quality products and get them to market faster. Pivotal’s new Product Management practice also provides expert advice on how to build and design products that will appeal to, and meet the needs of, target customers.

“With Pivotal now offering product management services to oversee all stages of software product design and development, companies that are building next generation platforms can have confidence that the entire project will run smoothly and cost-effectively,” said Greg Woodward, Ph.D., CTO of SharesPost, a leading financial marketplace built to support the growth of the pre-IPO economy.

New Offices in Boston, Los Angeles and London

Pivotal announced that additional West Coast and East Coast regional offices are slated to open in Los Angeles and Boston in the coming months, along with Pivotal’s first European office to be based in London. In addition to its San Francisco headquarters, Pivotal has existing offices in New York and Boulder, CO. This geographic expansion will enable more companies across the US and in Europe to benefit from Pivotal’s ability to deliver reliable, high-quality software that meets clients’ business goals.

Executive Appointments Ready Pivotal for Rapid Growth

To help lead the company during this growth phase, Pivotal named new
executives to oversee key business functions.

  • Edward Hieatt, previously Vice President of Engineering, has been promoted to Chief Operating Officer;
  • Matt Eng has been appointed Chief Financial Officer;
  • Drew McManus will lead the new design and product management practice as Vice President of Product;
  • Melissa Dyrdahl has joined as Vice President of Marketing, a newly created position at Pivotal.

“Enhancing our design and product management capabilities and opening new regional offices enables us to meet the growing demand for our services,” said Rob Mee, president and founder of Pivotal Labs. “This, combined with the expansion of our executive leadership, means we can deliver results even faster while continuing to focus on improving the customer experience.”

Various industry analyst firms such as Ovum are closely tracking software development methodologies to determine future industry requirements. Ovum believes that highly disciplined software development processes, such as those that Pivotal practices, will continue to play a critical role. Michael Azoff, principal analyst at Ovum observed: “Agile practices are transforming the IT landscape and this has happened as a result of a groundswell of sentiment across the development community at large, with favored methodologies ranging from full orthodox adoption to those that pick elements from Agile methodologies that fit in best with existing processes and requirements.”
