ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Head of Marketing at Pivotal Labs, the Communications Lead is responsible for the various customer and community facing communications company-wide. This would include but not limited to our corporate website, newsletter, blog, case studies, white-papers, publications and more. The Communications Lead is also responsible for working with the PR and Events teams to develop and execute media relations strategies to support events and other initiatives.
The Communications Lead works as a key component of the Marketing team, in partnership with another senior writer. With a focus on aggressive lead generation goals, the Communications Lead is responsible for:
Planning 3+ months of major communications initiatives based on:
Strategic/successful tactics for generating high-quality leads
Current industry news/trends
Audience: mostly VPs, CTOs, CIOs – decision makers considering implementing a mobile-based (app or website) strategy for their organization
Work with Engineering, Business Development and Product Management to understand client pain points, challenges and interests to influence and prioritize subject matter
Creating and maintaining efficient systems and materials that effectively communicate the impact of our work and perspectives with current and prospective customers towards the goal of cultivating new leads and deepening the engagement and awareness of current and prospective clients.
Composing and editing communications and written materials, including but not limited to newsletters, whitepapers, research reports, web content, marketing collateral, etc. These may require the conveyance of compelling storytelling, which may be technically complex, that must be written for a diverse audience.
Work with the Digital Lead to develop online and social media strategies for the publications to drive engagement, encourage digital conversation and ultimately conversion
Managing the production process for publications, ensuring that they are completed in a timely fashion
Working with Graphic Designer to create realistic critical paths.
Sourcing photos, and illustrations, arranging photography as necessary
Tracking deadlines for all publications to which Pivotal Labs contributes on a regular basis to ensure that contributions are delivered on time with appropriate approvals.
Helping build engagement with current and potential clients by developing and executing media relations strategies to support Events.
Working with the Events team and Digital Lead to evaluate potential for media relations for all events, and develop appropriate objectives and strategies to maximize coverage before, during and after the event.
Preparing media materials including but not limited to news releases, media advisories, media kits and backgrounders and managing approval process with appropriate stakeholders including Pivotal Labs public relations.
Working with Digital Lead to optimize dissemination media information through appropriate social media channels and encourage online dialogue where appropriate.
Pitching media stories and handling requests from journalists.
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism or other related discipline.
Knowledge of lead generation tactics, nurturing and Marketo an asset
Knowledge of the mobile space or technology in general is required
Five (5) years related writing/communications/media relations experience in a Technology services and/or Software Development environment.
Proficient with the Microsoft suite of software, i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
Working knowledge of applicable software programs, i.e. Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Publisher, etc.
Persuasive, articulate and compelling writing skills.
Excellent verbal, written and listening communication skills.
Superior editorial, copy-editing and proofreading skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Excellent relationship management skills.
Very good presentation skills.
